Growings On 8/5/19

It takes a lot for me to recognize an individual chicken in my flock.  Not that I don't care for them, but when there's 250 and multiples of each breed, there needs to be some distinctive visual or behavioral quirk for me to remember them from day to day.  I've had a few birds with bumblefoot where I drain the abscess, clean it, release them and never find them again because they blend back into the mass of feathered squawking.

That being said, I do have a few distinct roosters, and I've been noticing this little guy lately... Doesn't he look like he belongs in an emo punk rock band??  I've started calling him Panic! I try not to name roosters until I know whether I'm keeping them, and this one has yet to hit maturity.  But Panic!'s the only boy I have carrying a white egg laying gene, so I know I'll likely keep him unless his teenage personality is unbearable.  Hopefully he lives up to his namesake and pushes the limits without crossing the line into attacking humans or hens.
