Farm Happenings for October 18-19, 2023

Posted on October 15th, 2023 by Gail and Maurice Smith

Hello everyone on this fine Autumn Day.  Time to get out and enjoy Fall in all its glory.  Wow, 3.5" of rain.  At least it gives this old farmer some hope again for the next season.  Water in the ground, a good thing and less chance for any fire events.  Now (if we had any dry wood) we can enjoy a fire in the firepit.

Sorry for the lack of peppers on the product list last week.  Sometimes this Harvey program is difficult to work with.  I am on my third time typing this newsletter today.  Kicked me out twice.  Third time is a charm they say! Last week, we mentioned the tomatillos are harvested.  Tomatillos are very nutritious in vitamins A and C and have been around since the days of the Aztec.  Tomatillos are naturally high in pectin, which makes them ideal for thickening sauces, salsas and stir-fry well with other vegetables. Tomatillos in salsa verde lends a distinctive citrusy acidity that no tomato can give.

As always, have a great week.  Remember to be kind to your environment, you will need it for tomorrow.  Come for a visit, you are always welcome.
