Farm Happenings for October 11-12, 2023

Posted on October 8th, 2023 by Gail and Maurice Smith

Happy Fall Day.  Hope you have the opportunity to get outside to enjoy the fall weather.  What a switch in temperatures.  Shorts on the clothesline from last weekend to getting out the long sleeves and sweatshirts this weekend.  Dealing with frost coming spurs on the harvesting of soft crops like tomatoes, tomatillos and peppers.  Accomplishing those tasks between the rain showers inspired us to look up at cloud events and brilliant rainbows. Caught this double rainbow photo late Thursday afternoon. Somehow during this harvesting, we must find time to mow the lawn before snow.  Afterall, many of us remember the 3' of snow on Halloween of 1991.  Kind of ironic that we need to mow lawn now.  It will be the fourth time all summer.  Everything greened up nicely with the better late than never rain.  Even the fava beans responded to the rain and heat.  Put on new growth and are loaded with flowers just in time for them to freeze. Even the plants are confused over the weather.

We are offering 2 pepper mixes this week.  Sweet peppers may include bells of many colors, green, red and purple and shishitos. Hot peppers may include serrano, Hungarian hot wax and jalapeno.  We don't have many of any one kind so thought it might be easier to offer a mix.  This way you have the benefit of many colors and flavors.

As always, have a great week.  Remember you are always welcome to come visit.  We can use help picking Brussel sprouts this week!?
