Farm Share Week 9

Posted on August 15th, 2020 by Gail and Maurice Smith

At last we received some much needed rain. The fields are happier.  The mosquitos are tiny, numerous, desperate and did I mention overabundant.  In the photo, I couldn't resist showing you a hummingbird moth.  Each year they come to visit the phlox flowers.  Super cool.  They move like a regular hummingbird.  Wings go a mile a minute.

We have a few more vegetables to offer this week.  The tomatoes are starting to ripen.  We mostly grow heirloom tomatoes.  The taste is amazing, the look of the skin not so beautiful sometimes and they are soft compared to the grocery store tomato....that you can use for softball practice!  We will put them in a clam shell to try and protect them from the ride to your house.  Usually about 3 tomatoes to a pound if that helps with planning.  We always are a little nervous about tomatoes in a farm share box just because of the conditions they are subjected to on the way to your house.

The packing "Produce Squad" apologizes for any errors in packing your box.  Somedays it gets overwhelming.  They are packing 75-80 boxes at a time with at least a dozen items in many of them.  They do each one separately with no talking, but, sometimes it still gets screwed up.  Please have patience and if there are errors, let us know and we will try to fix it in the next box.

Also, if you would check over your Harvie delivery information and schedule each week it is a good idea.  In the last 2 weeks we have had holds put on boxes that was not requested.  Gail checks them and catches some abnormalities, but, the holds are difficult to tell if someone is going on vacation or the system just is messing up.

Have a great week, stay safe and celebrate each other.
