Hey CSA Family!

This week, as we celebrate the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., we are reminded of the countless Black farmers, ranchers, and rural community organizers who are leaders in the regenerative and sustainable agriculture movements. We are inspired by the work of Fannie Lou Hamer, George Washington Carver, and other Black activists whose work in the South guides us to this day.

Earlier this year, our farmers held meetings to discuss our positionality in the food system. We acknowledge the tiered privileges that we hold, and we are working to listen from, and uplift the Black farmers and producers in our community.

Here are some updates from this week on the farm:

  1. Kohlrabi is sizing up in our gardens. This funky and delicious brassica will be heading into your CSA boxes this week!
  2. Last week’s storm wiped out our bunching onions. We’re rolling with the punches and adjusting our CSA accordingly.
  3. One of our cattle herds is moving to our Lock Seven property where they will spend the Winter eating hay (dried grass) that was grown on that land. We will collect their manure, and spread it back onto our hay fields, thus closing a loop in the nutrient cycling of the land!

Reminder: you have from now until Sunday at 8pm to customize your CSA box! We have A LOT of: sweet potatoes, winter squash and beets. Swap or add on these items and stock up for winter!

Let us know what you're cooking on our Caney Fork Farms CSA Facebook group and be sure to follow us on Instagram and Facebook to keep up with farm happenings!

Here are the organic veggies available in this week’s CSA box:

*The harvest list is always tentative. The garden decides what's in the box.
