Farm Happenings for July 28, 2021: Blue Moon is hiring

Posted on July 21st, 2021 by Lorien Carsey

We've got our carrots mostly seeded and germinated! I replanted one block of 5 beds because I had too many weeds and not enough carrots, but other than that I am very happy with the progress. It's always rough to get carrots going in mid-July. There are lots of decisions to be made about when and how to do it based on weather, soil conditions and weed presence.

We are starting to introduce new crops to your tables: peppers, cherry tomatoes, and potatoes. As always, items that are highly valued but in limited quantity will be reserved for swaps and extras until we get them in full supply. Our tomatoes in the fields are just starting to ripen up heirlooms and romas, so look for bigger availability of those in the weeks to come. I hope we start swimming in tomatoes soon!

To everyone who didn't get their zucs last week, we'll be putting them in this week. Sorry for that!

BLUE MOON IS HIRING

It's the time of year to lose workers because school starts.

If you or anyone you know likes to work hard outside with great people and take home lots of food, please fill out an application from our website to be found here and email it to bluemoonfarmurbana@gmail.com

We need people starting now through December, full or part-time. We also need a CSA helper, as one of our drivers is returning to the U of I ice rink zamboni seat.

Other than that, we need harvesters, planters, weeders and washers. Join us!
