Farm Happenings for April 24, 2021

Posted on April 15th, 2021 by Lorien Carsey

Above is a pic of Alex harvesting and bunching the cherriette radishes that have sized up. Behind her are the collards that will be bagged, and peeking between the collard stalks you can see the tiny peppers we planted last week. Once we strip these collard plants, we’ll plant more peppers in their spot. These will be sweet red, yellow and orange peppers.

Saturday’s delivery will complete our 2021 Winter/Spring CSA share.  Thanks to everyone who participated! We hope you had some great meals.

CSA News

May 26 will begin our Wednesday CSA drops. If you haven’t already signed up, there are still a few spots. If you’ve already signed up, consider purchasing one of our add-on shares. We have cheese from Prairie Fruits Farm, flowers from Delight Flower Farm, meat and eggs from Bane Family Meats, eggs from Moore Family Farm, and mushrooms from Flyway Farm.

Plant Sale News

We have growing information and all the varieties we are growing for our plant sale at this page at our website. There are all kinds of tomatoes, peppers, herbs, and bunching greens.

There are two ways to get plants for your garden from us. Market purchase and pre-order.

Market purchase: May 1st is the first outdoor farmer’s market at the Lincoln Square Mall from 7am-noon. We will have produce and garden plants for sale every week until we run out of plants.

Pre-order: Starting May 5th, we will have a Wednesday Plant Drop from 5-6pm at the Urbana Lincoln Square Mall. You can order your plants during the ordering window through our Harvie Farm Stand.

You will get an email on the Friday before the Wednesday drop alerting you that the ordering window is open. You will have until Monday to order your plants. There will be a five plant minimum order. The process of delivery will be similar: you drive up to the site, put a big name sign in your window, pop your trunk, and we'll drop the plants in.

May 7th is the first frost free date in our zone, so don't be tempted to plant your tomatoes and peppers before that date!

Thank you for eating and shopping local. Your commitment to us allows us to keep farming!
