Farm Happenings for December 19, 2020

Posted on December 10th, 2020 by Lorien Carsey

Here’s a pic of Cindy and the garlic field. We plant garlic (garlic seed are the cloves) in the fall, then mulch it heavily with straw to protect it during the winter. This encourages deep root growth and bigger bulbs for our July harvest. This year we increased our garlic planting to five rows per bed instead of three because we just can’t grow enough garlic.

This Saturday is our final Fall share. Thank you so much for participating! It was logistically tricky to manage two different pickup sites in addition to a market. We hope it was a good experience for you all, and thanks for your patience.

As I mentioned in the last email, we are still organizing the details for the January through April months. Look for an email about that soon. The pickups will be the 2nd and 4th Saturdays from 9am-11am. The Land Connection WILL be extending the market, and our pickups will be happening in the exit of the market. That’s at the South east doors, not the main doors to the mall on the South side. This may affect your decision to choose contact-free or in person. There will be people exiting the market through the spot we’ve chosen to stack the CSA boxes. If you are already signed up for Farmstand (One-Time CSA) program, you don’t need to do anything to keep participating. You will keep getting an email on Monday’s to alert you that Farmstand is open. If you want to sign up for the whole season (CSA membership) that’s what we are setting  up right now. Look for an email hopefully today.

Again, thank you for supporting local farms!

We welcome all feedback, so feel free to email us at bluemoonfarmurbana@gmail.com
