Farm Happenings for August 14, 2019

Posted on August 8th, 2019 by Lorien Carsey

Good morning!

We hope your week is going well and your CSA is enjoyable.

If possible, please bring us your pint and quart containers back the following week. We reuse them if you don't have a use for them. We are always looking to reduce our plastic footprint by recycling and reusing.

This week, we have been harvesting potatoes and weeding carrots. Most people don't realize that carrot weeding starts when the plants are so small which means weeding is a hands and knees operation. It takes several days and many people to complete the job. If we don't get the weeds when they are babies, they will out grow the carrots and steal their water, killing the  carrots. I don't think you all would be very happy if we let that happen to our beautiful carrots. We are also taking care of our new brassica plantings so we have kale, cabbage, broccoli, fennel, and napa cabbage for the fall. They are growing up so fast!

We should start seeing red peppers in the next couple of weeks. Our red peppers are so sweet and always a favorite at market and at the farm. We are looking forward to offering them soon.
