How We Survived Last Week & Upcoming Flower UPICK Event

Posted on July 28th, 2019 by Reuben DeMaster

We are thankful to have our full crew back to work this week. Last week was tough but the girls (and one lone farm boy) rose to the challenge. They picked cucumber twice, green peppers, swiss chard, and harvested three rows of potatoes. It doesn’t sound like much when I just list it that way but remember that our rows are 300 feet long! On Tuesday and Wednesday they packed all the bags and boxes for our CSA members and then double checked to make sure they didn’t make any mistakes (did we?).

Girls Have Fun Helping Annika in Her Flower Fields
On Thursday the girls had an easier day and a fun job: they helped Annika pick flowers and assisted her as she made her bouquets for her Flower CSA Members.

Learning About Flowers with Annika
We’ve been learning so much about flowers because our daughter, Annika, started her own growing flowers for her own business, Willow Haven Flowers. When she makes bouquets she cuts all the leaves off each stem, she lines all the different flowers up on the table and holds the stems in her hand as she adds each flower to the bouquet. She also has multiple steps she takes to keep her flowers lasting a long time.

We Deliver Handmade Bouquets to Homes & Offices in Lehigh Valley
These beautiful bouquets of locally grown, chemical free flowers are delivered to homes and offices around the Lehigh Valley. We could easily deliver flowers to you or to someone you care about. Her bouquets are available as a Flower Share with your veggies or to add as an EXTRA to any order.

Flower Tour & Pick Your Own Flowers Event

Annika is opening her flower fields to the public on Saturday, August 3 from 6 - 8:30 pm.
You’ll get to tour the field, pick a mason jar full of flowers and take as many pictures as you want! The price is $10 per person. (But if you are in the flower CSA you can come and bring your family for free.) Let her know that your coming by reserving your spot on her website HERE! Walkins are welcome. There will also be lemonade and food available for purchase via Macungie Mountain Herb Farm’s mobile lemonade stand.

We hope you can come this first of it's kind event at Willow Haven Farm to support a young, local, farmer in her first year of business.

We'll Keep Farming for You!
