How to Eat Farm Pizza & Farm Story

Posted on June 20th, 2019 by Reuben DeMaster

1. Come to your farm
2. Order your pizza
3. Watch the fire in the Brick Oven
4. Meet and chat with other farm members and the farm family
5. Eat your pizza surrounded by vegetable fields and animal pastures.

This Saturday we are making Brick Oven Sourdough Pizza on the Farm. Find out more below.

This is the season to enjoy adding herbs to your dishes. Try leaf fennel and everyone's favorite, basil.

Monday morning we head straight to the field to pick vegetables.  The first task was to harvest 100 heads of lettuce then rinse the dirt off the bottoms, put each head in a bag and get them into our walk in cooler as quickly as possible.  It is best to pick greens and lettuce first thing in the morning while the leaves are still fully hydrated from the dew and the cool of the night and before the sun begins to heat the air.

We also sent several sets of hands out to the rows of sugar snap peas.  You can watch a video of one of the farm girls showing me how to pick peas the other day.  It is a bit labor intensive and many CSA farms don’t grow them or only grow them for those who will come to pick themselves.

There are plenty of peas this week during the peak of the pea harvest so add extra peas to your box.

PIZZA AT THE FARM

We invite you to visit your farm, meet your farmer and enjoy farm fresh toppings on our incredible, organic, whole wheat, sourdough pizza crusts. We’ll be making them from 10 am - 2 pm. Find out more and get directions.

DON’T MISS IT! We won’t be making these pizza again until later in the season.
