Farm Happenings for July 7, 2020

Posted on July 1st, 2020 by Emily Asmus

Beni the farm dog says "what do I do with this?" We don't want you wondering the same thing about the squash. So we're picking it small. If you want BIG ones let us know and we'll pack you out whoppers for zucchini boats. On the farm were embracing these cool days of July to get some big stuff done. This morning we harvested the garlic crop. Some 8,000 heads are now hanging to cure in the barn. In a few weeks, after they dry down, we'll start offering them for sale. Tomorrow we'll get water back on that field and prep those beds for transplanting fall cabbage, broccoli, and cauliflower. This afternoon Liz is seeding some 13 beds of carrots and beets that we'll start harvesting end of September for fall and winter eating. Its always surprising how quickly on the heal of summer solstice comes the planting of food we'll eat at the next solstice. We hope you're enjoying your farm goodies.

Rotating cheese offering this week is an herbed chevre, jam is Peach Vanialla, and tea is Oolong tea with Jasmine Blossoms, Contains Caffeine. Laci writes "Oolong tea enjoys the health benefits of green tea with a flavor profile more akin to black teas. We combine them with actual Jasmine Blossoms, not the extract, for a delicate and fresh approach to an age-old pairing. Can be enjoyed both iced or hot."

Happy eating, Emily and the whole farm crew
