Farm Happenings for July 14, 2020

Posted on July 9th, 2020 by Emily Asmus

So many beautiful sunflower are blooming on the farm right now. You can add a 5 stem bunch to your delivery for $5 this week. Just make sure to grab them from the buckets- we won't pack them inside the boxes. Sweet peas bunches are another floral treat available for these fleeting July days at $3.50 bunch. Growing flowers is such a pleasure for me. I love the colors, the textures, the scents, and especially all the insect activity of the flower garden. The zinnias are opening up and the bumblebees especially like them.

In two weeks we'll be opening up the farm's flower patch to children in "Farm Kids" day camp, programming we offer in partnership with Blue Mountain Land Trust. Two more week-long sessions will run in the end of July and 1st of August. If you know elementary-aged kids who would benefit from time outside on the farm and in the creek, please consider signing them up. Spots are open in all three sessions. Groups will be small, 5-7 kids, and led by two dedicated camp counselors. We are mitigating COVID risk at the farm by health screening all participants, and keeping all campers and camp staff separate from farm crew. They will not be accessing our indoor spaces or facilities, or working or playing in proximity to farm employees. What we have to offer is outdoor space, so we are making the cautious and joyful decision to welcome kids to the wild reaches of Welcome Table. If you have additional questions or concerns about the day camp presence on the farm, please contact me directly and I can share more of the details of our plan.

Trying to find the best path forward,

Emily
