Farm Happenings for November 7, 2018

Posted on November 5th, 2018 by Ben Saunders

This is the final share for the Fall Season.  This is also the final Shares we will be delivering in 2018.  With the very cold temperatures coming up on Thursday night all the Fall field planted crops will surely not make it, which seems to be Nature's way of bringing a close to the growing season!  This season though we've really been putting an effort into getting one of our high tunnels planted out (the other one will be used in the early Spring) so we're excited to be able to still produce locally grown Certified Organic food into the Winter!

Unfortunately though, we are still learning how to extend the season using high tunnels and really didn't want to offer a "Winter Share" until we get a year or two growing experience under our belts.  We are learning though and in the rainy Monday weather attended an all day "short course" at Iowa State University about growing in high tunnels (see featured photo).  It was a day full of learning and we hope to offer a Winter Share soon!  In the meantime, we may possibly be sending out emails occasionally this Winter with opportunities from the High Tunnel

As the season draws to a close, please remember to bring bags with you to this final pick up to transfer your bounty into to leave the box behind.  Also thank you for being a part of our Farm this season!  It was a very challenging season (weather-wise) but we could adapt to produce some very nice looking and tasty shares!  We really hope you've all had a good experience and looking forward to reconnecting with everyone in 2019!

Until 2019,

Farmer Ben and the Crew
