Farm Happenings for September 16, 2020

Posted on September 14th, 2020 by Ben Saunders

Well, those rains we had sure did feel food!  We got somewhere between 3-4 inches and the ground sure did need it!  One downside is it caused some of the full size tomatoes to crack (they become so full of water they burst open) but fortunately it wasn't that many that cracked!

This week is the first week we are going to start distributing Delicata Winter Squash.  Today was our first harvest and it looks like there are going to be plenty more to come.  The summer squash seemed to have slowed down a bit with the cooler temperatures but hopefully this warmer weather coming up will help encourage more to size up as there are still a lot of very small ones on the plants!

We've finished up our final greenhouse seedings for the season and most of these transplants will go into one of our high tunnels.  Right now we're hoping to get the new plastic put on one of them (that got blown off in the Derecho) over the next couple of weeks.  We are going to try and reseed (again!) field crops this week as well.

Have a great week,

Farmer Ben and the Crew
