Trumpeter Swan Farm CSA News - Summer Season, Week 11, Delivery August 9th thru August 11th

---- Melons ----

We started picking cantaloupes this week. They are coming on slowly, but more should be ripening up soon. The watermelons are still at least a week out if not two. They have been getting plenty of rain so they are very happy plants. Plenty of plantings so there should be melons until first frost in late September.

---- Potatoes ----

Picked 40 percent of our potatoes this last week. We have two varieties, yukon gold and red potato. They are a bit on the smaller size, but that makes them perfect for stewing and pan frying. We won't have them for two long because of potato bugs this year. We had a large potato bug outbreak at the farm this year and it did end up affecting the amount of potatoes that we will be harvesting.

---- Rain ----

Saturday and Sunday we got two different rainstorms come through. We were needing some water and this most recent rain will help immensely. It also came at a perfect time, over the weekend, so that it didn't affect us with picking.

Thanks,
Ian
