Trumpeter Swan Farm CSA News - Summer Season, Week 8, Delivery July 19th thru July 21st
---- Peas ----
Last week we started picking shell peas. This week we'll start picking snap peas as well. This summer has been very hard on the peas. Peas prefer cool and moist growing conditions, this summer has not been that. In May it was cool enough to help them get started, then June came and it was hot and dry, then July is here with more hot but not dry conditions at least. Snap peas will be here for 1 week whereas shell peas will hopefully stick around till next week. Peas are always a big gamble for us but every year we at least get something out of them.

We have been blessed recently with getting two rain showers, 0.66" and 1.2" last week. Because of this it has taken the pressure off watering. It actually rained at the perfect time because we just got done mulching winter squash and melons, and a lot of our veggies are starting there fruiting/bulking phase. In a perfect world we'd get 0.75" of rain per week, but it never works that way. We will see if this trend of rain continues but for now it's smooth sailing.
