Trumpeter Swan Farm CSA News - Winter Season, Week 50&51, Delivery May 17 thru May 19

---- Asparagus Pops ----

Asparagus started poking up last week. The warmer temps, plus plenty of rain, gave it the incentive to get going. Stalks are a bit thinner, as expected with last year's tougher growing season. However, they look good with no die back. Also, some radishes and chives will be available.

---- Planting News ----

Our fields are on rolling hills, with some higher and dryer, and some lower and wetter. While there is still standing water in some low areas, we were able to till and plant a few higher fields. We had a 2 day window just before the 2.5" rains we received last week that allowed us to get early season transplants like onions, spinach and lettuce in the ground. We have another window today and Tuesday, to get more onions, plus strawberries, and maybe even some potatoes planted. So far so good.

---- Wind Damage ----

The storms also did some damage on the farm. Part of a high tunnel frame was bent and will need repair. And a new beehive blew over. The bees picked up and left, hopefully finding a new home elsewhere for the summer. We were fortunate compared to some other farms in the south metro.

Thanks,
Phil
