Trumpeter Swan Farm CSA News - Summer, Week 6, July 6 thru July 8

---- Broccoli ----

Broccoli is here, it's coming slowly, enough for about half the members. A reminder that you may find a couple of worms in the broccoli, little green fellas, they mean you no harm. The green worms are cabbage loopers and they love to munch on the leafs of our all our cole crops; broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, etc. If you find one just remember its a sign that the broccoli hasn't been doused with pesticides and that's a good thing.

---- Limited Eggs ----

With the hot weather the chickens are started to feel heat stressed. We do what we can by giving them plenty of water, shady trees around the barn, and having our barn fan circulate the air inside the barn. That being said with the temps being in the upper 80's all the time they just don't want to lay as many eggs.

Ian.
