Trumpeter Swan Farm CSA News - Winter, Week 41&42, Mar 7

---- Hydroponic Set Up ----

We set up the hydroponic system in the greenhouse. We last used it 5 years ago, inside our packing area, but found that it cost a lot to provide light and it generated a lot of unwanted humidity. So now its in a place that handles humidity well, plus has natural sunlight. Hydroponic is less valuable in spring when temps go from cold to warm pretty quickly. But we'll get experience with it now, so its ready to go in the fall and early winter when it can really shine!

---- Planting High Tunnel ----

With the last of the extreme cold behind us, and the ever stronger sun shining away, we can now plant in the high tunnel. Lettuce and Spinach transplants went into the ground last week. They don't mind cool nights, and we have a heater in there to keep it above freezing if it get too cold outside. Thing grow slow when its still cool, but by mid-April, it should be ready!
