Trumpeter Swan Farm CSA News - Winter, Week 37&38, Feb 7

---- Afternoon Delivery ----

When it gets this cold, we try to delay our deliveries until afternoon to make sure the boxes don't sit too long. Adding more water bottles will also keep things happy. Delivery should be done by 6pm. Regardless, if you are home by midnight, things should still be okay. Once in awhile, things don't go right - let us know if there are any issues.

---- Guest Produce ----

We have some extra items available this week! Salad greens (tender mizuna, mustard and arugula), small beets, white radishes, and cabbages. Our fellow vendors at the Buffalo Market (Jimmy and Heather at Farm Farm) have a greenhouse they are clearing out before this big cold snap. So we have surplus items from them. They are a young couple, rented a farm for 4 years, who bought one north of Princeton this year with the help of a USDA loan for beginning farmers. We are happy to help them be successful!

---- Chickens Hunker Down ----

As long as our hens can shelter inside the barn, they are really surprisingly cold tolerant. We will give them extra carbs (cracked corn) to help them keep warm. They have good body fat from the nice summer and fall to carry them through this cold spell. We just have to make sure we pick eggs every two hours to make sure they don't freeze.

Thanks,
Phil.
