Trumpeter Swan Farm CSA News - Summer, Week 17, Sept 20

---- Winter Squash Harvest ----

Ian and the crew worked hard Friday to harvest and wash all the winter squash. While the growing season seemed spotty, the amount of squash we harvested looks good!

---- Garlic Planting ----

We gave out the last of the garlic last week. We reserved enough for next year's crop, which we will start planting in October.

---- Feeding the Bees ----

With summer fading, its time to feed the bees. Since we took half of their honey stores during the summer, we need to make sure they have enough to last them through the winter. They need about 60lbs of honey. A simple sugar syrup is just fine for feeding. They take it in, convert it to simpler sugars, store it away, and evaporate it to the right consistency before capping it.

Phil.
