Trumpeter Swan Farm CSA News - Summer, Week 14, Aug 30

---- Okra ----

Our son, Ian, tried okra for the first time. He was up north this weekend, on a well deserved camping trip. He sliced the okra into half inch pieces, dipped it in shorelunch breading, and fried it with the fish. He loved it! Pretty good for someone who did not always eat his vegetables. If you've never had okra, give it a try! You'll find it in the swap area.

---- Sweet Corn ----

We have a nice steady stream of sweet corn. We usually have a planting or two that does not work out, but not this year. Any extra does not go to waste, as the chickens love it! However, if you are someone who wants extra sweet corn for freezing, let me know. It would be $4 per dozen.

---- Failed Melons ----

Last year we had a nice cantaloupe and watermelon crop. This year, not so. The dry weather and weeds have conspired to stunt our vines and reduce the crop. So scratch melons. I notice Cub is featuring Minnesota grown melons, plus I've seen a good assortment at the farmers market, so its a good time to get locally grown melons!

---- Herbs ----

We continue to work on adding herbs to our available items. Cilantro and Dill were disappointments this year- we have to figure out a better way to do them. The others are doing well. We are adding Chives back in the list this week. Look in the swap area for herbs you might need.
