Summer Share Week Five

Posted on July 30th, 2021 by Lorraine Blackwell

Reminder that after this week we have a week off before returning to shares on the week of August 16th!

There is plenty of exciting summer crops in the shares this week plus some fun items in the swap area. Anyone who is interested in making sauerkraut (or just loves cabbage) may want to swap for one of the LARGE cabbages in the swap section. I grew some sauerkraut cabbage since Funky Ferments is co-producing some for us and the large cabbages in the swap are some extras I have. There are also still some of the smaller cabbages in the swap area too (I've identified which is which in the labels).

We are also trialing selling Timberline Farms 100% grass-fed beef by the piece this week. We have a limited supply of various cuts and if these are popular we will increase our stock later on.

Overall, the crops have been enjoying the rain and warmth and the peppers are looking particularly lush and loaded with green peppers. In a few weeks we should have plenty of coloured peppers! For the rest of the next week, I'm trying to get the remainder of the fall crops planted in the short windows when the ground is dry enough. While we still have lots of summer to go, there are signs of fall to come in the fields: there are loads of winter squash on the vines, the brussel sprouts and fall cabbage are growing well, and I'm just about to plant some fall arugula, winter radish, and other treats!
