Summer Share Week 12

Posted on September 25th, 2020 by Lorraine Blackwell

This is the last week of our summer share! Fall shares begin next week (the week of October 5th). I have compiled a very short survey that will help me with planning for 2021. Please take 3 minutes to have your say here: https://forms.gle/6E9pdX8diTvhDWZ89

Our 2020 Raw Wildflower Honey is now available! Rob is busy getting the first buckets strained and bottled. Don't worry - if we sell out this week there is more on the way by next week. Many people say our honey is the most flavourful they have tasted and I'm not going to argue with that!

Also, beef boxes are back in stock and will be available for the remainder of the season!

We have had a small frost and now several hard frosts so the fields are looking less green and more like the end of the growing season is nearly upon us! I am in the thick of harvesting many of the fall crops in bulk and storing for the fall season. While there is always some harvesting right up to the end of October, a lot of the heavy lifting is happening now. Luckily this year I have a 15 year old son who is really into weight lifting so he's taking on some of potato harvest :)

Our winter squash harvest was not as stellar this year as we have had in the past. This is due to very high cucumber beetle pressure the last two growing seasons. However, our butternut, acorn, spaghetti, and delicata squash did well. To be sure that there is more variety and enough for everyone some squash you receive will be supplemented from Pfennings Organics. And I have big plans for how I'm going to prevent cucumber beetle damage going forward in future years!
