Summer Share Week 11

Posted on September 18th, 2020 by Lorraine Blackwell

This is kind of a fun week for share contents! We have some our concord grapes available for everyone and I brought in some baby cauliflower from Pfennings Organics as a treat since I don't grow cauliflower. These are not large cauliflower but they will be a nice addition to a stirfry or other mixed vegetable dish. While I was at it, I also brought in some local, organic Cremini mushrooms and those will be available this week only as an extra purchase.

Just a reminder that this week is our second-to-last week of summer share pickups. If you have any double summer shares to claim, this week and next are the last weeks to do so. On another housekeeping note for those that pickup at the Apostles Church on Thursdays, we have been asked to end our pickup on Thurs., Oct 1st at 6pm, rather than 6:30pm. A church family is holding an outdoor funeral and we need to leave the space for them. I will send a direct email to those members this affects closer to the date as a reminder.

Monday evening was our first light frost, which mostly just nipped the leaves of the squashes, zucchini, and beans. But tonight we are expecting a hard frost which will be sure to kill all but the hardiest veggies (and those that I have protected with row cover). Our tomatoes, eggplants, and peppers are all in our greenhouse or caterpillar tunnels so they should keep going for another couple weeks, though.
