Summer Share Week 8

Posted on August 28th, 2020 by Lorraine Blackwell

It's nearly the first week of September and my favourite blend of summer and fall. The days are still warm, sunny, and the fields are full of bounty. But the nights are cooler and the mornings are fresher. The dew is so heavy in the mornings that rubber boots are required until the sun burns off the moisture. We are still in the thick of summer vegetables right now, but you will notice a fall vegetable or two creep in over these next 5 weeks of the summer share.

This week I have decided to put the tomatoes in the swap section only but packaged in larger quantities. Over the next few weeks, I intend to alternate between offering tomatoes in everyone's share with a week of swap only. The trade-in weeks allows me to split the tomatoes into different types (cherry, slicing, paste) and package in larger volumes for those that want lots of tomatoes and gives the less enthusiastic tomato eaters a break.

We have PLENTY of beans so there are lots available in the shares plus more that you can purchase as an extra. If you like to freeze some for later use, now is the time to do it!

We are ordering our honey bottling supplies as we speak and Rob will be harvesting our 2020 honey in a few weeks. There should be some available in the extras section before the end of the summer season! We also realized that we had made a calculation mistake on the butchering costs of our pieced chicken so the unit price has been lowered.
