Summer Share Week 6

Posted on August 7th, 2020 by Lorraine Blackwell

We have an exciting addition to the 'extras' options this week: 100% grassfed beef! These 10lb mixed boxes are from our friend Jared at Timberline Farms near Harriston. These boxes will only be available this week and, if popular, a week or two in the fall. At Timberline Farms, Jared takes great care to raise his Speckled Park and Wagyu beef sustainably and in a way to enhance the environmental and ecological value of the land. For more information on his farm check out his website listed above and visit his Instagram where he also shares great recipe ideas for his beef.

Each 10lb box reflects 'nose to tail' eating, and typically includes the following cuts: 2.5 lbs of premium steak (ribeye, sirloin, or strip loin), 2.5 - 3lbs roast, 3 lbs of ground beef, and 2 lbs of stewing beef or steaks (round or sirloin tip). All are individually vacuum sealed for freshness and long storage.

On our farm, the tasks are pretty typical to early August. The garlic is curing in the greenhouse and, as space becomes available, the onions will be pulled from the field to begin their curing. I seeded the last of the carrots just before we received 4 inches of rain last weekend, so they should germinate well with all the water! I'm starting to see the first blush of colour on some of the peppers, although it will probably be a couple weeks before there are enough ripe peppers to share with everyone. Our second planting of beets is looking great and should be ready shortly. The cucumbers are starting to grow faster than the cucumber beetles can damage them so you will notice that your cucumbers will be a bit larger and less damaged over the next few weeks.

REMINDER: Next week (the week of August 17th) is an off week and there is no CSA delivery.
