Meet the fam! (Week 7 of 12)

Posted on August 16th, 2021 by Jenny Berkenbosch

Hey folks! Thanks for another week of eating our veggies! We appreciate you so very much for your commitment to our farm through the farm share program. One thing that we miss is the face to face interactions that we have enjoyed over the years at farmers markets, so we hope that you will take the opportunity to come to our farm tour and say hello this coming Sunday! We sent an email this morning with all the details, so be sure to have a look!

There are many of you that we've never met before, so we thought we would take this opportunity to introduce our family! We are James, Jenny, Silas (15), Eli (13) and George (9). We've been farming on this 14 acre plot for 11 years. We are passionate about soil health and about good food. Our kids have grown up here, and they are the main reason that we made the move to the country in pursuit of wholesome living.

Our favourite veggies: James: onions, Jenny: green beans and delicata squash, Silas: butter lettuce, Eli: carrots, George: potatoes and carrots!

Our hobbies: James: says he doesn't have time for a hobby! (but we've seen him read a lot about psychology and tractors), Jenny: exploring the nearby forest, Silas: knife-making and snowboarding, Eli: trampoline & volleyball, George: trampoline & drawing.

Our dream vacation is to visit the Netherlands together and bike the countryside, drink buttermilk, eat stroopwafels and dutch fries with mayonnaise. Or a return trip to Mexico, where we have some great memories already.

We have some family rituals that bind us together especially during our busiest times, and they are reading together, pizza/movie night after market on Saturdays, waffle-Wednesday, and sharing a home-cooked meal at the end of each day. I guess food is the tie that binds here!

We hope that you enjoy this week's harvest! Please remember that you are able to customize your shares and, if you are  not able to pick your share up, you can opt to put it on hold or reschedule it for another week.  Customization, holding and rescheduling can all be done on your Harvie account page during the customization period (until early Wednesday morning). Here are some links to help docs that Harvie has put together for your convenience. If you are signed into your Harvie account click here. If you are not in your account click here. And, as always, reach out to us if you need assistance!

Warmly,

Jenny and James
