Spring, Easter, and Eggs

Posted on March 16th, 2021 by Ron Meyer

Snow crocuses and snowdrops are blooming, the weather is mild, and grandsons are playing in the sandbox—it must be spring! We’re starting seedlings and cleaning the winter debris from the gardens, getting ready to plant early crops.

Easter is coming soon, so were saving up eggs to dye. (Our eggs are so fresh that they’re hard to peel unless you wait two or three weeks.) People often ask if you can color brown eggs. The answer is Yes!, as you can see in the photo. The colors are deeper and richer than with white eggs. We find that using liquid food color and hot water with vinegar works best.

Our next delivery was scheduled for April 8, but since Easter is April 4 and people might be needing more eggs, we will deliver on April 1. No fooling! But if you want to “season” your eggs for easy peeling, you might want to order them this time.
