Tomato Season!

Posted on August 11th, 2020 by Ron Meyer

The weather continues to be hot and dry, with no new rain since we wrote last week. The lettuce is now done for the near future, waiting for the cool, moister days of autumn. But thank goodness, the tomatoes have started in earnest! Now tomato salads and BLTs are on the menu. The cherry tomatoes are really producing now, so we're offering half-pints of all Sun Sugar (our sweetest tomato) and mixed cherry tomatoes.

New this week are ground cherries! No, they're not actually cherries, but sweet little golden nuggets in the tomato family, protected in paper shells. If you haven't tried them yet, you should. They're great for snacking, and healthy too! The paper shell should not be eaten, but discarded. Before eating, though, keep the ground cherries in their paper shells and set them on the counter. They should last a week or two.
