Farm Happenings for July 17, 18, and 20, 2019: Week 7 out of 16!

Posted on July 12th, 2019 by Robinette Farms

IF YOU PICK UP AT LEON'S: Please come to pick up as early as possible so that your veggies can stay cool!
It's going to feel like 105 degrees during pick up and your pea shoots won't like it!

Have questions? Need help figuring something out in Harvie?

It’s feeling like summer and we are in full switch mode here on the farm!

We are pulling the last of the spring crops out of the ground, mowing the residue (and weeds), and plowing spring ground to prepare it for a seeding of cover crop to help build the soil, and to provide habitat for beneficial insects and our pollinator friends.

This week we planted all of the fall broccoli, cabbage, kale, and chard, and planted another round of zucchini, cucumbers, squash, and our last round of melons! The picture above is of the giant sprinkler we are borrowing from our friends Jerry and Renee Cornett at Lakehouse Farm. They weren't anticipating a need for it this year and wanted it to be used, and we were interested in trying it out on some of our fields. Stay tuned on our Instagram and Facebook to see this thing in operation!

We are also in the thick of our garlic harvest as I sit at the computer and write this update. The crew is out in the sun this afternoon pulling the garlic out of the ground so we can set it to dry in our greenhouse for a couple weeks before we trim it and get it ready for storage and distribution.

We hope you all are enjoying the first real taste of the summer heat and are getting outside and to the water to cool down! We are taking good care of ourselves in the heat and we are working earlier in the morning to make sure we are harvesting and planting our crops in the cool of the day. This benefits both the farmers and the veggies!

Enjoy the share this week!
