Farm Happening (7th DELIVERY SUMMER out of 20)

Posted on July 8th, 2021 by Diane Riehm

Double duty this week!

Baling straw from the wheat field and laying those bales between the newly planted strawberry plants for weed control.

Our hope is to harvest more of your Favorite Fruits by increasing our production of strawberries in the fields next year. Woo Hoo!

Several steps also go into harvesting KALE:

  • First- it's bunched together in the field by our farm team.
  • Second- Adeline runs the kale through the veggie washer.
  • Last- Into the walk-in cooler while wet. Where it gets very cold and stays crisp (just like when you get out of the shower and don't dry off) you get very cold.

You don't have to stress...

Take it from from CSA Masters who have been eating weekly veggie bags for years. Here's a couple of Simple Tricks to eat everything in your bag each week:

  • Sip on a refreshing Drink to hydrate yourself - Try adding sliced cucumber into plain water this week. Let it rest for several hours and pour a glass to refresh yourself later. If you are a second year member make your drink even better and throw in several mint leaves too.
  • Are you pairing up your squash for a mild flavor to add to Pasta this week? Such an easy way to change up dinner a little and use veggies from your Weekly Bag.

Want to know a complete schedule for your Weekly/Monthly Add-ons?

Not everyone's schedule is the same each week for your eggs, flowers, fruit, coffee and meat. Here is how you see yours:

There's been an update that creates a sold out sign over a products now.

This happens when a crop is just starting to produce or when we have a low yield.

Last week it was the carrots and fresh beans since the harvest just began.

We didn't want to leave you high and dry since the low volume can't be offered during swapping, so we added some to the extra list just in case you really wanted them. As a convenience to you!

Warmly,

Farmer Phil, John & Diane Riehm
