Farm Happening (6th DELIVERY SUMMER of 20)

Posted on July 1st, 2021 by Diane Riehm

How does a cucumber become a pickle?

It goes through a jarring process!

We know we may be in quite a pickle after that joke, but for the next several weeks we will be harvesting CUCUMBERS.

Time to start thinking about meal prepping since there's so many different ways you can prepare cucumbers.

"FOOD PREPPING makes pulling a meal together so much simpler. I didn't believe it until I tried it for myself" says Diane Riehm.

Just slice them up, put them into a container and refrigerate!

Something magical happens, THEN the ideas start to flow.

Get creative with the ideas below and plan to incorporate cucumbers in the next 8 weeks:

  • Week #1 – Bring an interesting Dip to a cookout
  • Week #2 – Sip on refreshing Drinks
  • Week #3 – Spice up boring Salads
  • Week #4 – Cool down with Frozen Treats & Smoothies
  • Week #5 – Add to Lunch Sandwiches for crunch & freshness
  • Week #6 – Salted cucumber snacks
  • Week #7 – Convenient on-the-go Wraps
  • Week #8 – Juicy homemade Pickles
Need more inspiration? Here are 36 amazing Cucumber Recipes to try.

We're starting the fun with Farmer's choice in your bag depending on the current harvest.

  • Week #2 – Pairs nicely with the mild flavor of Pasta
  • Week #3 – Light summer Soups
  • Week #4 – Add flavor and crunch to Salads
  • Week #5 – Summer Grillin' & Kabobs
  • Week #6 – Easy Foil Pack dinners
  • Week #7 – Shred into moist Breads
  • Week #8 – Surprise appearances in Desserts
  • Week #9 – Easily Bake or Roast or make into wedges for Oven Fries
  • Week #10 – When in doubt, Freeze for later

Try a trick that's been popular with one of our CSA members when FOOD PREPPING squash:

  • Week 1-she wedges them/Week 2-spirals/Week 3-cubes/Week 4-slices
    • This gives her 4 different ways of food prepping and each shape creates an inspiration for a recipe.
