Storage Crops and Watermelon Season in the Cariboo!

Posted on September 26th, 2021 by Brianna van de Wijngaard

Happy Sunday, everyone

This is our 2nd to last CSA newsletter of the season. Always seems like it comes out of nowhere. The seasons are certainly changing, and it's almost time for everyone and everything to have a rest.

We have 2 new additions to the boxes this coming week: some lovely red plums from Linda and Charlie of Fraserbench Farm here on Soda Creek MacAlister Rd. Linda and Charlie are also the creators of the fabulous cultured apple cider vinegar that you see on the extras page as well. They have around 10 plum trees and over 40 apple trees in their orchard!

The 2nd is...watermelon! Melon season arrives a little late in the Cariboo because they take so darn long to grow, but they're worth it. Especially this year, they are bigger and sweeter than ever. The watermelons we have in the boxes this week are from Big Fire Farm, located near the old Marguerite ferry crossing on West Fraser Rd. Now don't be alarmed: these watermelons are NOT red - they're yellow! Just a different variety of melon. They taste just as delicious and will be ripe when you get them.

We still have all the bulk storage crops available as extras as well: cured onions, winter squash, carrots, beets, and potatoes.

Thanks, everyone. See you Fri!

Your Farmer,

Brianna
