Last of the 10+c Nights?

Posted on August 20th, 2021 by Brianna van de Wijngaard

Hey everyone!

We're getting ready for another market day tomorrow, and our 11th week of CSA shares. We are loving the cool nighttime temps that have set in, and the cloudy days. As the mornings get darker and cooler, it makes me wonder if we are done with the 10+C nights now. We may very well be. I can already see the newest plantings slow down in their growth as the season starts going in the other direction.

We have some new spuds from Silver Birch Farm for next week! And some lovely early apples from Tom Salley of Mackin Creek Orchard. This variety is called Gravenstein: a small to medium sized, semi-tart but often randomly sweet apple. We will get a few more varieties of apples from Tom in the coming weeks.

Some of you have asked about lettuce mix and I'm so sorry we haven't had it for a while! We had a poorly-germinated seeding a while back, and that set us back for consistent lettuce mix. We have more in the ground but it's not quite ready yet.

EGGS: I haven't heard an update from Alexandria Springs Farm yet as to whether or not we'll have eggs next week so I'll leave them on the list and adjust totals if we're not able to get them. I'll be adding credits for those who missed eggs this past week by Sunday.

TOMATOES: we may have more cases of heirloom and San Marzano plum tomatoes for next week but I need to confirm with Hope Farm Organics closer to Sunday. Will add them to the extras page and send an email if they're a-go!

That's it for this week, folks. As always, let me know any questions or concerns you might have. Look forward to seeing you next week!

Your Farmer,

Brianna
