Farm Happenings for August 7, 2020

Posted on August 2nd, 2020 by Brianna van de Wijngaard

Hey, everyone

wow, August already! it's such a crazy time of year because on the one hand, you're planting some of your last veggies, but you're also still only about halfway through the season as far has harvesting or markets go. It's a bit of a strange feeling! But also very nice to be in the thick of summer. We are starting a bit earlier in the morning for sure! With the heat we've been getting. Hope some of you have made it to the beach, or are planning to!

I've been keeping my eye on the fall storage crops: onions, thankfully, are still alive after the flood, and starting to bulb out. Winter squash fruits are well on the their way, and just need to grow a bit more and form a tough skin. It's super exciting to watch those long-season crops grow! There is already a lot of kabocha, spaghetti, butternut, and delicata squash fruiting.

BLUEBERRIES: we hope you all loved the blueberries last week. But! I am pretty certain we missed some of you, because...I screwed up printing all the tags! So I wasn't sure who got them in their boxes. If you purchased blueberries but didn't get any last week, please let me know! I am making a list of who missed them and ordering again next week.

We've only got a few units of tomatoes coming on so we will put them in the boxes until everyone gets some. If you miss tomatoes for a couple weeks, let me know so I can make sure you get them.

Bulk basil is on the list, for the pesto lovers. I usually process it with just olive oil in a food processor, and put it in my freezer. That way, you can use it for all sorts of dishes, not just pesto.

We are lucky to have one last bed of spinach before the fall plantings! I usually can't plant it again until September.

Thanks, everyone. Let me know any issues or feedback, as always!
