Farm Happenings for July 17, 2020

Posted on July 12th, 2020 by Brianna van de Wijngaard

Happy Sunday, everyone!

We are already back to another customization email! For the week of July 13th, which includes...blueberries and bread! So please keep an eye out for those items when you are prompted to choose any extras for your share this week. That's where they will be listed, and I have some more info on each below. If you want bread, however, I NEED TO KNOW BY TONIGHT AT 8PM! And that's simply so that Annette, the baker, can prepare tomorrow for Tuesday delivery. Keep in mind it will be a few days after that you would get a bread order. So you would need to customize your order by then.

But first, thank you all SO MUCH for your support and flexibility this past week, with regards to taking on extra produce due to the flood in our lower field. The support we've received from the community is really the only reason I am not that stressed about it. And also...nothing has died yet down there! But even still, you all have been great and I so appreciate the kind messages you've sent. Thank you. We don't know for sure what will happen to the crops down there yet, but we are pushing on and planting more beds up top to hopefully make up for any delay in the lower field. The water level has receded entirely and we will keep you all updated about any impacts this may have on produce availability. If we need to, we may order some items from other sustainable, local farms to fill the gaps but we will see.

REMINDER: if you do order more cabbage, please do rinse it with salt water, or cook it. I have consulted with a few food safety specialists and it is considered low risk, but it's my responsibility to let you all know that!

This week, we have a lot of the same items to choose from as far as veggies go but with more variety, so it allows members to switch between crops a bit more, which is nice! And here are the details on the blueberry and bread orders:

BLUEBERRIES: These are certified organic blueberries from Snowy Mountain Organicsand I am super excited to be able to get some bulk fruit that is perfect for freezing! I love having frozen blueberries over the winter for smoothies and baking. We are taking pre-orders for these now, and will get them to CSA members in the next couple weeks. They are listed on your extras page, and are $6.29/lb for any orders less than 10lbs, but you can also order 10lb flats for $5.50/lb. An awesome deal for organic blueberries!

Here is what you will see as add-ons to your veggie shares:
