CSA Week 6 for July 14, 2020

Posted on July 8th, 2020 by Brianna van de Wijngaard

Happy Wednesday, everyone!

We are already back to another customization email! For the week of July 13th, which includes...blueberries and bread! So please keep an eye out for those items when you are prompted to choose any extras for your share this week. That's where they will be listed, and I have some more info on each below.

But first, thank you all SO MUCH for your support and flexibility this past week, with regards to taking on extra produce due to the flood in our lower field. The support we've received from the community is really the only reason I am not that stressed about it. And also...nothing has died yet down there! But even still, you all have been great and I so appreciate the kind messages you've sent. Thank you. We don't know for sure what will happen to the crops down there yet, but we are pushing on and planting more beds up top to hopefully make up for any delay in the lower field. The water level has receded quite a bit and we will keep you all updated about any impacts this may have on produce availability. If we need to, we may order some items from other sustainable, local farms to fill the gaps but we will see.

This week, we have a lot of the same items to choose from as far as veggies go but with more variety, so it allows members to switch between crops a bit more, which is nice! And here are the details on the blueberry and bread orders:

BLUEBERRIES: These are certified organic blueberries from Snowy Mountain Organicsand I am super excited to be able to get some bulk fruit that is perfect for freezing! I love having frozen blueberries over the winter for smoothies and baking. We are taking pre-orders for these now, and will get them to CSA members either this week, or the following week: it will depend on when the farm sends up a harvest. But either way, once they're pre-paid, we'll get them to you asap! They are listed on your extras page, and are $6.29/lb.

THE SCHEDULE: Annette has other customers she bakes for on a bi-weekly schedule, so she is able to offer us her products during the alternate weeks. The 1st week for which we can take orders for Annette's baking will be July 13th. You can then order bread from her, with your veggie share, every 2 weeks thereafter. Since I will be sending her orders by the previous Friday, (July 10th) I've added her breads to your list of add-ons in this week's email. She says they all freeze well if you want to stock up!

Thanks again, everyone. We so appreciate your support and enthusiasm. It makes all the difference!
