Farm Happenings for July 19, 2022

Posted on July 13th, 2022 by Grayson Crane

Hi there folks,

On to another week!

A couple notes:
1) I know we had to do a few swaps last week. I had anticipated summer squash being ready, but we ended up short. Still waiting on them to pop, but when they do, oh boy get ready. They're incredibly productive plants and you'll see as many as you want until those plants drop some time mid September. Please let me know if you're not feeling good about the swaps we had to make, and I can give you a credit.

2) The bonus box has made its debut! This is a box with a handful of extra items. You're welcome to take 1-2 extra items to enjoy with your share. Sometimes these are items we harvest Saturday, and need to be used ASAP, otherwise they're just extras from a bountiful harvest.

Well, now that's out of the way...We've been busy busy with fall field prep and planting. Put in lots of broccoli, cauliflower, onions, carrots, and beets for fall and winter eating. The future looks very bright in terms of vegetables.

Another big milestone is we completed a drainage improvement project out here. This has been almost three years in the making with the NRCS and the Conservation District. Shed a little tear into that underground outlet this evening. It's going to vastly improve our heavy use pasture for sheep, and help our front field drain a little earlier. For context, that field wasn't dry until end of June this year. In 2021 we were already harvesting out of it by then.

Thanks as always. Excited to get you more veg this week!
