The Show Must Grow On!

Posted on April 27th, 2020 by Robyn Calvey

As the abnormal becomes the new normal, we hope you are all hanging in there.  We want to remind you that we are here for you...growing for you.  Our field planting started ON TIME this past week, something that is far from normal most seasons of farming.  On-time planting means on-time veggies for eating!  We got over 50,000 onions planted, the first broccoli and kale in the ground and a couple different lettuce plantings tuck in and ready to grow.  Also seeded LOTS of sugar snap peas and the first beets and carrots. Our crew is working hard to ensure that we stay safe and healthy on the farm so we can continue growing for you.  THANK YOU CREW for all you are doing to stay safe (daily temps, face masks and positive attitudes!).

With such a surge in vegetable shares sign ups in March and early April we decided to increase our share capacity.  Now those additional units have also sold out.  We will officially be packing over 410 shares a week!  Our most ever.  The desire for local food has never been so present.   We are so very thankful to all of our members for choosing us to grow your food.  THANK YOU!

The farmers markets scene is still a little uncertain as the folks over at Downtown Appleton get things figured out regarding the safest approach.  Guidance from the state level is now in place within the current stay at home order.   At Park Ridge Organics, we plan to offer a convenient pre-order option for market in which people shop online prior to Saturday and simply pick up their order from our market stand (or directly from the farm).  This will be offered via our Harvie Farm Stand platform.  The plans for farmers market are changing frequently so stayed tuned for details.

Our ONLINE PLANT SALE is still plugging along (no pun intended!) and we still have plants available!  The plants will be ready for picking up in the middle of May with a Farm or Appleton pick up location option.  All the information is right on the online store page.  Please reach out if you have any issues or questions.

As for The Farm Store at Park Ridge Organics, we are approaching the start of asparagus season!  As of now, we are hoping to open the season with in person shopping (self serve as always) AND a once a week drive through pick up at the farm (likely Saturdays).  We know that fresh local food is ESSENTIAL and we will do our best to get it to anyone who wants it.

Thats all for now....stay healthy out there everyone!
