Heigh Ho Heigh Ho...it's off to harvest we go!

Posted on June 21st, 2019 by Robyn Calvey

REMINDER: for the week of July 4th...THURSDAY SHARE PICK UP will be WEDNESDAY JULY 3rd INSTEAD of July 4th.  The Friday (Elkhart Lake- July 5th) and Saturday (Poco- July 6th) sites will NOT be effected by the holiday.  If you need to reschedule your share for any reason now or during the season, log into your Member Profile and click on the My Deliveries tab to "Change Date" and receive a double share on the week of your choice.  Be sure to make this change BEFORE the cutoff time of the week you wish to change (10pm on Sundays).

With the harvest season upon us now, things got busy really fast around the farm.  This is the time of the season when everything overlaps but it feels great to be harvesting the veggies of our labor! We are transplanting, greenhouse seeding, field seeding, weeding, cultivating, hoeing, transplanting, and harvesting.  Phew...thank goodness we haven't had to add irrigating to that list.

This weeks photo is of sugar snap peas...a very tricky crop to predict harvest yields a week ahead of time.  What does this mean for you?  It means that we could potentially have a shortage but we of course do our best not to have that happen.  But Mother Nature is the boss of all bosses.  If we ever encounter a week where we simply don't have enough to reach our harvest estimate, you will have a shortage noted on your email/label come pick up day.

Last thing, we do wash most of the produce that you receive but it is always best to rewash produce.  Whether it is from us, another farm or a grocery store, washing produce at home before you eat it is the best way to practice proper food safety.

From your Friends and Farmers at Park Ridge Organics, happy eating!
