Farm Happenings for December 3, 2018

Posted on November 30th, 2018 by Tim Vrieselaar

Hello!  It's December and that means that our Fall CSA is on a wind down.  We are trying our best to give you a good assortment each week.  And now we are throwing in something special that's been waiting for your..RASPBERRIES.  If you think the BC blueberries are yummy...you will love the raspberries.  I have snitched a bag from the freezer and have been taste testing them.  These raspberries are huge!  At least twice as big as the ones we grew here this year.  It must be because of all the rain they get in BC.  They are coming to you in a 1 lb package.  Check your orders if you like raspberries!!

In other news...our pigs that ate our scraps all summer are headed to the butcher next week.  We are planning to make lots of sausage (farmers and breakfast and who knows yet what else).  There are 3 big pigs that we look forward to getting lots of meat off of.   And next year....I am hoping I can convince Tim to get us a beef calf and maybe even a milk cow.  You have no idea what it looks like to go through the grocery store line up will 8 jugs of milk at a time... I would love to have fresh milk that doesn't take all those crazy white bottles!!

But those are all dreams for next year.  We are expecting the seed catalogs any day and itching to start dreaming for next year.  One order is in for next year already - the strawberry plants.  They are all getting started in the greenhouse next spring ...which means we will need to fix the broken greenhouse to have enough room to start as many things early as we can so that we can be delivering the first week of June.

Lots of hopes and dreams for next year - - and winter has hardly started....I am sure the real snow will be here soon....until then...we will hope to get family pictures in yet before Christmas too!!
