Time to ORDER for February 15, 2021

Posted on February 5th, 2021 by Tim Vrieselaar

...Brrr...It's COLD OUTSIDE!!

Please remember your coolers with a bottle of hot water (waterbottle/milk jug).  This little bit of extra effort will protect your produce from freezing.  And please collect your shares as soon as possible.

Our winter has been pretty reasonable so far...and cold is part of Alberta Winters!! We are happy to report that we have finally tracked down insulated bags....but it's going to take a number of weeks yet before they arrive.  Until then...we will try our best to keep everything from freezing.

New this week is microgreens from Hannah's Harvest.  Hannah is a homeschool mom to 6 children. Her and Nathan are growing delicious microgreens only a few miles from our place.  We have taste tested all their product and it is DELICOUS!  It tastes like SPRING! (we need that right now don't we?) This week we will have pea shoots, broccoli and radish microgreens (broccoli is mild and slightly sweet, radish has a bit of a kick)  Ours tasted delicious on bbq pork buns!   Another thing to mention on the microgreens is the packaging.  They come in nice little "plastic" containers....that are actually made from a corn product and are totally biodegradable.  Just toss the containers and lids (sticker removed) in your compost and they leave no footprint!  (We will be exploring those for our strawberries this summer as well!)

The cold weather has given us back our skating rink.  The kids don't mind the shovelling job when they get the reward of skating for as many hours as they want.  Except for today...I'm pretty sure that by the time the ice is cleared they will be back inside for hot chocolate and a warming up...and then they will be back at it!

Stay warm everyone....Spring is coming....I know that because our seed order is on it's way!! Here's to the 2021 growing season!!
