Farm Happenings for June 24, 2019

Posted on June 23rd, 2019 by Tim Vrieselaar

It's been a slow start to the gardens this year.  The cool, rainy weather just seems to stick around and it's slowing the crops down too.  But the good news is that the gardens have never looked better~ the weeds are staying under control~ and that's a huge thing on a vegetable farm!!  The cool weather means slower crops...but the broccoli and cauliflower love this weather.  So it's some ups and some downs and we look forward to having you along for the ride as we celebrate our 10th anniversary of CSA growing!

The BC fruit is also not quite ready - so for this first week you get fresh preserves.  Berries that were frozen last summer and fall have been pulled out and made into some delicious jams.  There are strawberry, strawberry/rhubarb, and blueberry jams all fresh made today (Saturday) and ready for you to enjoy!  We make them with a lower sugar than regular jams ~and that means more delicious fruit in each bite.

MAGGI - also known as Lovage~ it's an herb that I love and use nearly every day in my cooking.  It adds delicious flavor to soups, stews, rice etc.  Give it a try - I'm sure you will enjoy it! And any extras can be chopped up and frozen for later.

Looking forward to getting the 10th CSA season underway and hoping you will enjoy each basket of goodies.

Don't forget your reusable bags!!
