Winter share update, early Sept 2020

Posted on September 1st, 2020 by Timothy Lyon

We hinted in earlier news we hope to head to Australia this year. We haven't seen our family there for a while and we hope international flight patterns and prices will allow us to catch up with them and see more of the continent Down Under! Our Winter plan means truncated Winter share distribution. Rather than running our usual Nov-Apr monthly Winter shares, we plan to make all of our produce available Nov-Dec for you to purchase and store fresh, dried, fermented and frozen. We will be providing the majority of our produce fresh to you, so you can decide how to store it until use. Of course we'll provide tips and training on how to. We're excited to share with you from the knowledge we've gained providing Winter shares for the past few years.

If you have already signed up for a Winter share in the Nov-Apr format, no worries, we'll sort it out once we launch the updated version. If you haven't yet, but want to, do drop us a line with "Winter share please" in the subject line (or call us on the old dog and bone*) to let us know. We'll let you know as soon as they're available for purchase.

For this week, Autumnal weather continues to set in as usual, bringing damp. Damp on the farm means downy mildew, which sadly will end some susceptible crops such as cucurbits (cucumbers, squash, zucchini). It may also truncate basil harvest and mean green onions come to you with shorter tops. We'll be working to cut some taller crops down and thin others to increase airflow between plants and mitigate mildew spread. And, we've got salad greens already growing in open places so hopefully they don't get hit.

Hint: "dog and bone" is rhyming slang for "phone"!
