Eat the Freshest Food: a slogan realized

Posted on September 6th, 2020 by Timothy Lyon

Our favourite slogan over the years has been Eat the Freshest Food! Amidst jargon such as "decentralized urban farm," "market garden style urban farming," and "uncertified organic produce," the slogan stands out. Eating from the Kingston foodshed (food grown really close to where we live) is the best way to get fresh food, and have a face-to-face relationship with the farmer(s) who grew it. Being downtown and bicycle powered, we're pleased to cut food kilometers down to almost nothing, and get food to people as quickly as we can post-harvest.

Considering the slogan, we've decided the best option for Winter shares is to continue offering weekly shares in November-December until supplies run out. We're going to provide you with delicious veggies, including carrots, kohlrabi, turnips and potatoes. In keeping with our aim to be an educational urban farm, and invite others to eat along with us, we've re-learned ancient techniques to enable our community to feed itself one person, family and household at a time. And we're going to share some of those with you, to reduce your time spent preparing meals, and avoid any of the precious harvest going to waste. We'll help you make some of your favourite recipes by adapting them to use the veggies you get from us.

So, while we iron out the final part of our plan, please be in touch to let us know if you'll join us, or not, continuing to get food from us Nov-December while it is fresh, and until supplies run out.
