Week 13: Melons and more

Posted on August 27th, 2021 by Michael Moss

Hello from a clear and warm day at the farm. After such a hazy and smokey summer, it is refreshing to see a clear blue sky and unimpeded view of the divide. A day like this helps me realize how blessed we are to live in Colorado.

We have been very busy at the farm over the last week. As well as harvesting lots of our summer fruiting crops, we are also planting and seeding more fall crops like spinach, lettuce, arugula, and braising mix. I am super excited to share we have harvested our first melons of the season, the mini love watermelon. This is an incredibly sweet personal-sized red melon. We should have another round coming next week. If the weather keeps up with these warm days and cool nights the sweetness and flavor of all of our fruiting crops will get better and better.

With seven weeks left of our CSA, it feels like we have entered the home stretch of the season. We still have huge harvests of melons, winter squash, peppers, broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, cabbage and so much more. With the ever shorter days and a crew that has really hit their stride, it feels like we can take a deeper breath as we work towards fall.

Thank you for being a part of the farm family.

Michael, Cayla, and Aiden

Fruit Share - I hope you have been able to keep up with all of the amazing fruit we have been able to bring to you so far. We are still deep into peach season so this week we are bringing your 3# of Cresthaven Peaches and 3# of Nectarines. Woohoo! In a few weeks we will be transitioning to pears and apples, but for now, let the peaches flow.

If you need more peaches for your preserving needs, now is the perfect time to add a case. Just find the Case of Peaches in the add-on's section and add it to your share.

Add ons

Honey - We have received the very first jars of honey from the 2021 season and it is delicious. The bees have been very productive and all of the flowers of the spring and early summer give this honey a wonderful complexity.

Fruit - This week we have Bubble gum plums, peaches, and nectarines available as add ons. We also have a special pricing on 20# cases of Cresthaven Peaches for $65.
