First blush of winter is at our doorstep

Posted on October 4th, 2019 by Michael Moss

Yay, October! Some people get excited when the leaves change and pumpkin spice becomes an acceptable flavor. Some folks raise their fists to the sky and long for the heat of summer. Well, it looks like this upcoming week is going to have a little bit of Summer, Fall and Winter. One of the farm staff excitedly asked if I had seen the change if the forecast since I am normally the weather guy. I had not and the forecast for snow next week really changes the todo list.

Gratefully all of the crops we have in the fields can tolerate some light frosts and snow. It is this crazy fall weather can impact our production and in turn what is available for your shares. We have harvested and stored a lot of crops so I fully expect to keep the bounty rolling. We will all have to see what Mother Nature decides to do.

Fruit Share - I hope everyone has been enjoying the switch to apples. This week we will be giving fruit share members a large bag of Honeycrisp Apples.

Extra Fruit is Available - This week we have some pears, apples, and peaches available as extras to add to your shares.

Carving Pumpkins - We have grown some amazing carving pumpkins to help all of our members make the most of the fall spirit. We are not going to be able to send these to our pick up sites or home delivery as pumpkin choices are very subjective. We will have pumpkins available starting this Tuesday at our Gunbarrel farm pick up. We will have the pumpkins available each Tuesday evening until the end of the csa.

Pumpkin Patch Saturday October 12th

After the snow melts we will set up our pumpkin patch for everyone to come and pick out the perfect pumpkin. We will have a tent set up with some carving tools and some warm cider. Bring your family out to check out the farm and take home some pumpkins.

Saturday October 12th, 11-3

Thanks for being such a big part of our farm.
