The 17th week of the CSA, for real this time.

Posted on September 27th, 2019 by Michael Moss

Last week I got a little ahead of my self, so we are now in our 17th week. It is hard to keep track sometimes with all of the tasks around the farm. So we have 4 weeks left of the CSA with our last pick up dates being October 22nd and 23rd.

Even though we are still planting, harvesting, and processing food, we have started the process of giving back to the soil and nature. Farming is impactful on everyone and everything involved, including the soil. In order to continue growing high quality food on the same piece of land year after year we have to do some farming for specifically for nature. The picture above is our cover crop germinating where we grew our cucumbers and squashes this season.

We strive to always keep something growing in the soil. This living root helps hold the soil in place over the winter. All of these plants continue to feed the soil biology long after I have walked away to start farming at my desk.

All of us at the farm are enjoying the cooler temperatures. This should help sweeten the fall crops that are up and coming and keep the smiles on our faces for the next 4 weeks.

Eggs - This week we have 10 dozen eggs from Fair Farm.

Fruit Share - This week we are well into the apple season. We will have a bag of Jonathan apples and a jug of delicious apple cider. The Jonathan Apples are Ela Family Farms best pie and sauce apples.

Extra Fruit - This week we 3 10# flats of peaches and 4 10# flats of Bartlett pears available for your preserving and processing needs.

Thanks for being a member of Kilt Farm
